The Blame Game

Why everyone sucks


Upon scouring today’s newspapers and blog entries, I found an interesting pattern: Everyone seems to think that there is someone else to blame in the difficulties facing the formation of the government. In other words, depending on where you stand, you can always find someone who really sucks. If you add up all the stands, you reach an interesting conclusion: Everyone sucks!

Jumblat sucks because he doesn’t have a clear position on anything. He lures the Americans and French into our stinky matters promising them to kick out the Syrians and to disarm Hizbullah. Only to change his mind later after he gets all he wants. He is preventing Aoun from entering the government because he is afraid that Aoun might scrutinize his legal past (hint: not a clean one).

Amal and Hezbollah both suck because they remained in power and because they have suddenly transformed the conversation from one about Lebanese vs. non-Lebanese to “securing the Shiit representation”, giving legitimacy to the other sects to do the same.

Saad Hariri sucks because he is being manipulated by Jumblat to sabotage Aoun’s entry to the government. Also, he is being too soft on Amal and Hezbollah. He also sucks because he gives religious institutions too much importance.

The Patriarch and the Mufti both suck because their sacrosanct status allows them to sabotage our national aspirations: Lahhoud is no Longer a symbol of oppression now; he’s just a Maronite Christian who is being outnumbered by the evil Moslems.

Qornet Shahwan sucks because it lacks assertiveness in promoting its moderate agenda and because it doesn’t behave like a pole in the negotiations taking place.

Aoun sucks because he’s making secret deals with President Lahhoud.

President Lahhoud just sucks.

In other words, most of our conversations are polite variations of who sucks and why.
Can we now move on and start thinking of how to make things better instead of relaxing in the “we have good intentions, but the bad guys wouldn’t let us do anything” mentality?
