A touch of symbolism

The opposition has shown that it has a nice knack with symbolism.
Witness yesterday when Walid Jumblat, Ahmad Fatfat and Neila Moawwad took the podium to read the opposition’s statement from Moukhtarah, there was more to that than just a Druze, Sunni and a Maronite, unified behind a political conviction.
Ahmad Fatfat, a Sunni Muslim, has been the target of vandalism in Tripoli in the wake of Mr Karami’ls resignation. The opposition wanted to show it’s united behind him. Neila Mouawwad, a Maronite Christian from Zghorta (whose husband, an ex-president, was also savagely murdered by the Syrians) was on the podium as a direct reply to Slaimen’s Frangiyyeh’s (also a Zghorta ‘zaim’ and Mouawwad’s staunch opponent) Hell-raising and boastings the day before…
“We stand by our woman”, they seem to be saying, "and she’s going to kick your ass in the elections!"
